Hello Spring

blog

blog2

Some things I love about Spring:

1) The back of our house faces the east; so we get beautiful views of the sunrise in the morning and in the afternoon our back patio/backyard is shaded and cool. We have been taking advantage of the mild Spring temps and enjoy eating dinners outside and watching the kids play in our backyard.

2) I have found a local place that sells hawaiian shaved ice. I cannot get enough of it. When we can't make it to our local hangout, we use our little "Rival" icee maker and make our own.

3) People emerge. We enjoy being outdoors year round, but it seems this winter we are the only crazies on our street to send the kids outside in 30 degree temps to play with sidewalk chalk and to ride their gator. It's nice to see other signs of life emerging from people...to plants and flowers.

I love Spring!

Allie came home from school Tuesday with the above picture.

"I am excited to get home and get shaved ice it is Spring."

It seems the kids almost enjoy our shaved ice outings as much as I do.

The Yellow Dress

We took a trip to the mall last weekend and Miss A fell in love with a little yellow dress. Sadly for A, the yellow dress did not make it home with us.

This week we received a note from Allie's teacher praising her for a job well done with her reading skills, and we decided to reward Allie and let her buy the little yellow dress.

She feels beautiful in it and was able to wear it to school yesterday thanks to a fast approaching Spring.

We are very proud of our little reader. Keep up the excellent work Miss A.

A Lesson Learned

blog copy

The other day the kids and I took a walk and bike ride. All was well until my inexperienced 3 year old's bike sped off down a cart path hill with a panicked G holding on for dear life.

I felt completely helpless and completely responsible.

It could have been bad. But the good Lord led G's bike over to the grass where he was cushioned as he and the bike tumbled. He walked away with a golf ball size bump on his head.

I walked away with a lesson learned - bike helmets are a must.

G picked out his Cars 2 helmet today. It even came with a bell which made the other walmart shoppers in the store with us today a bit annoyed.

Safe and happy riding G!

Let's go Crawdads!

Our local Hickory Crawdads baseball team (minor league team for Texas Rangers) hosted a St. Patty's day celebration complete with $1 hotdogs, free baseball tix to opening week, pitch throw, bounce house, meet Conrad the mascot, sack races, run the bases, etc... The fun was abundant.

It was a fun family day and with our little reminder of baseball around the corner, we are all counting down the days to the Crawdads opening games!

Speaking of baseball.......guess who is playing t-ball this spring!!!!!!!?????

5 inches

blog

Allie was going through photos in my wallet and found one of her when she was three....with much shorter hair.

That's all it took. She asked if she could trim her hair and wear it down just like the picture.

I raced her to Super Cuts before she could even think about changing her mind.

5 inches were cut and we now have a beautiful head of much healthier hair, a proud little girl, and one happy momma.

The "Gamer"

blog1

It was only a matter of time before our "all boy" boy discovered the world of gaming. He has a new nickname. Our "gamer".

The kids were gifted with a Wii for Christmas (thanks to a set of grands). Our particular Wii system came with Mario Bros, and it sat unwrapped with the Wii box for the first few months while the kids enjoyed playing other games (namely Toys Story and Barbie).

The old school game was eventually opened and G was instantly hooked.

Pretty sure he dreams Mario. We have witnessed him warping from room to room and he will pretend like his dies when things hit him and falls on the floor.

This past Sunday, G took a late afternoon nap and we needed to wake him. I openend his room door, came downstairs, turned up Mario bros. and loudly say, "Sure wish I had someone to play Luigi". Within seconds I hear, "What did you say mom"?

This all takes me back to my childhood. I've enjoyed rediscovering the land of Mario with him. Okay, I've enjoyed it WAY too much. Okay, I admit, I'm the gamer.

Tangled

blog

Allie's hair has reached record length.

She refuses to get it cut, and claims she wants to grow her hair out like Repunzel. I did manage to talk her into an inch trim a couple of months back.

Repunzel? I think she's got the "Tangled" part down!
